Cattle Stampede

Published: 01/01/1937

Everyone was gathering cattle to sell to Mr. Baton, who was buying cattle. About 1300 heads were placed in two pens at the Evan's place. Around the hour of midnight the cattle began to get restless, and they began to snort and walk around in a circle in the pens. The cowboys saw what was going to happen so they got prepared. The cattle finally broke and the race was on. Napolen Walker, who is still living, and other helpers tried to turn the cattle. Some of the cowboys even sang songs in trying to turn them. They succeeded in quiting them after riding about five miles, although quite a bit of damage was done. Twenty head of cattle were killed, thirty of forty were crippled, horns broken on many, and lots of the cowboys horses were knocked down.
