Great Storm of 1886

The town of La Vernia, was considerably demolished by the storm of 86, in which the Methodist Church was destroyed; the surrounding country was considerably damaged and many crops were damaged. The cotton and corn crop was almost completely destroyed in some parts of the country. Many out buildings around the town and many farm buildings were unroofed or destroyed. The storm consisted of high winds, driving rain and lots of hail.
