The county was organized in the early 60's named Wilson, and the county seat was located at Sutherland Springs. Some time in the year of 1867 or 1868, the county seat was moved to Floresville.

The Connallys -- John Connally, a Texas governor and U.S. Secretary of the Navy and U.S. Treasury Secretary; Wayne Connally, a member of both houses of the Texas State Legislature, and Merrill Connally, an actor and a county judge -- were all born and reared in Wilson County.
Wilson County is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area.
